Travel PlanningGetting Here, Where to Stay, What to BringIt is the client's responsibility to arrive the morning of the day before the hunt at the Dease Lake float plane dock. However, if you would like assistance with your travel plans, Tahltan Outfitters will be pleased to assist you with those plans in Smithers and Dease Lake. Hunters fly to Smithers, BC and overnight. To get to Smithers;
Tahltan Outfitters recommends the Hudson Bay Lodge for accommodations in Smithers. From Smithers you may either fly commercially with NT Air or you can rent a vehicle and drive to Dease Lake. We recommend driving as flights to Dease Lake are limited. To get to Dease Lake;
You fly in to and out of camp from Dease Lake, BC via float plane. The charter fee for this flight is currently $700.00 round trip for mixed bag camps and $1250.00 round trip for sheep camps. Clients fly in the day before and fly out the day after the scheduled hunt dates. All hunts start the day after arrival. Gear should be kept to a maximum of 50 pounds. flights outside scheduled dates and extra flights for meat are the client's responsibility. Equipment ListThis is a general guideline, personal gear will vary but the key is weight. Commercials airlines are getting tougher so your total, outside your rifle case, should not exceed 60 pounds. US airlines charge excess of 2 bags so hunters tend to come with a rifle case and a huge duffle. It is also very difficult to pack the big duffles with wheels onto float planes, so no wheeled luggage please. Bring a soft gun case and when you reach Smithers switch your rifle to the soft case and leave the hard case in Smithers.
